16/08/2025- The Leap

Max Depth: 21 metres

Time: 42 minutes

Temp: 17 degrees

Had been meaning to do the Leap for ages, so it was nice to finally get some flat seas. The vis was rubbish for the first 5 metres, but gradually cleared up to the point where it opened up to about 20 metres at 18 metres. This site is awesome, loads of monolithic walls, canyons and boulders, which form some swim-throughs. Saw an absolutely massive school of big Kingfish, tons of Port Jackson Sharks, two huge banded wobbegongs, some mourning cuttlefish, a long snouted boarfish and a Pygmy pipehorse towards the exit at the steps. Really cool dive.

16/08/2025- The Steps

Max Depth: 13 metres

Time: 51 minutes

Temp: 18 degrees

Did a dive going to the left from the Steps. This was an absolutely awesome dive. Immediately at the entry, we saw a huge Smooth Stingray. As we progressed along the dive, I saw a Crested Horn Shark moving into the shallows, as I followed it I saw two big shapes coming my direction. Turns out they were two seals! They played with me and my buddies for a little bit. After they left we found 5 Weedy Seadragons, which was a relief as we were worried there werent any around anymore. Also saw tons of Port Jackson Sharks and Crested Horn Sharks. We were lucky to spot a big Giant Cuttlefish hiding right at the entry. Such a good dive.

18/08/2025- Shelly Beach

Dive 1

Max Depth- 7.6 metres

Time: 50 minutes

Temp: 17 degrees

Nice, cruisy dive. Saw all of the usual Shelly Beach critters, Basil the Turtle, some Port Jackson Sharks and some Wobbegongs. Highlight was trying to film a PJ shark whilst a Blue Groper constantly photobombed us.

Dive 2

Max Depth: 9.4 metres

Time: 45 minutes

Temp: 17 degrees

Another typical winter dive (aside from the terrible vis) at Shelly. Nothing out of the ordinary to report aside from truckloads of PJ sharks and some Crested Horn Sharks. Find it hard to write about Shelly Dives; they are always pretty good, but nothing novel most of the time.

30/08/2026-Clifton Gardens

Dive 1

Max Depth: 9.2 metres

Time: 70 minutes

Temp: 17 degrees

Not a bad dive, aim was to find an anglerfish and we found one. Also found a large blue swimmer crab, some seahorses, an enormous octopus and one of my favourite nudibranchs, the Gem Doris, which I like to call the Coco Pops Nudi.

Dive 2

Max Depth: 6.2 metres

Time: 42 minutes

Temp: 17 degrees

This was a boring dive. We wanted to explore where the old jetty had been. Unfortunately, what had been described to us as remnants of an old jetty was just sargassum and some discoloured sand. Some Mourning Cuttlefish and Octopus, not much else.
